Argentina asks for a short list: an International Veterinary Certificate endorsed by the veterinary authority of the country the animal leaves, a current rabies vaccination, an examination and a parasite treatment. There is no rabies antibody test and no quarantine in the published requirements. There is one distinction that matters more here than almost anywhere else, and it is whether your pet flies with you or flies as cargo. Airlines price live animals on chargeable weight: whichever is greater, the actual weight or a volume figure worked out from the crate. For pets the volume figure almost always wins, which is why crate size drives the flight cost more than the animal does. The volumetric divisor is the industry standard 166 cubic inches per pound.
No carrier publishes a live animal tariff for the Argentina lane, so freight is priced per booking once the crate size and the dates are known. We will not print a number we cannot source. The endorsement sits in the $101 band because no test result has to be verified on the certificate. Argentina requires the certificate to be issued, signed and stamped by the veterinary authority of the country of origin, which on a US move means USDA APHIS rather than your own veterinarian alone, and it requires Spanish as one of the languages on the document. The fee is per certificate rather than per pet.
Argentina draws a line most countries do not draw at the border. A pet entering as accompanied baggage, flying on the same aircraft as its owner, enters free of charge. A pet entering as commercial cargo requires an import permit and a fee.
That matters because an unaccompanied relocation is a cargo movement by definition. It is not a large sum and it is not a reason to change plans, but it is a real line that belongs in the budget and it is the sort of thing that appears as a surprise at the airport when nobody mentioned it. If you are flying on the same aircraft as your animal, say so early, because it changes both the paperwork and the price.
The certificate is valid for 60 calendar days from issue or legalization, provided the rabies vaccination stays current across that period. That is six times the European window and it takes most of the timing pressure out of the move: the paperwork is finished first, the flight is chosen afterwards, and a delay costs you patience rather than a second endorsement fee.
The two windows that do bite run backwards from the certificate date rather than from the flight. The clinical examination has to fall within 10 days before the certificate is issued, and the internal and external parasite treatment within 15 days before it. A first rabies vaccination has to be at least 21 days old on the day the animal enters Argentina. An animal under three months needs its age certified and evidence it has not been anywhere rabies was reported in the previous 90 days. Breed rules are set nationally and separately from the health requirements, so tell us the breed when you ask for a quote.
Your vet sets their own fees. The examination, the parasite treatment and the certificate paperwork are priced by your clinic and vary between practices, so ask your vet directly. Crate size is the single biggest lever, because it drives chargeable weight, and on a quoted lane it is the number the carrier prices from. After that it is the accompanied or cargo question above. Season matters at both ends and the two are opposite: US summer heat embargoes run from May, while the Argentine summer runs from December, so no month is easy at both ends. Two pets on one certificate share the USDA endorsement, while each extra pet adds its own crate and freight.
