Chile keeps its pet rules short, and the published requirements include no rabies antibody test and no quarantine step. What Chile does insist on is timing, and it is stricter than most countries because one of its windows has a floor as well as a deadline. Airlines price live animals on chargeable weight: whichever is greater, the actual weight or a volume figure worked out from the crate. For pets the volume figure almost always wins, which is why crate size drives the flight cost more than the animal does. The volumetric divisor is the industry standard 166 cubic inches per pound.
No carrier publishes a live animal tariff for the Chile lane, so freight is priced per booking once the crate size and the dates are known. We will not print a number we cannot source. For scale, published long-haul lanes carry minimums of $690 to $720 plus a $150 processing fee, and a large crate frequently bills at 60 to 70 kilograms of chargeable weight.

Whichever carrier takes the booking sets its own hold conditions, crate rules and pet charges, and those vary more between airlines than the fares do. The endorsement sits in the $101 band because no test result has to be verified on the certificate. Chile calls the document an International Veterinary Certificate, and it has to be issued by the veterinary authority of the country the animal is leaving, which on a US move means your accredited veterinarian completes it and USDA APHIS endorses it. The fee is per certificate rather than per pet.
Most countries tell you the latest a treatment can be given. Chile tells you the earliest as well. The broad spectrum internal and external parasite treatment has to be administered between 5 and 30 days before the certificate is issued. Four days before is too recent. Five weeks before has expired. Both fail, and it is the most common way a Chilean move comes apart.
The clinical examination is the more familiar shape: within 10 days before the certificate is issued, showing no signs of infectious or parasitic disease. So the order is treatment, then examination, then certificate, then endorsement, and that 5 to 30 day band is measured against the certificate date rather than the flight date.
Chile gives the certificate 10 days from issue, extendable by a maximum of 5. The extension is worth knowing about, because it is the difference between absorbing a weather delay and starting the paperwork again.
On identification, Chile accepts a microchip or a legible tattoo to ISO 11784 or 11785. On rabies, a first vaccination has to be at least 21 days old when the animal enters Chile, and an animal with a vaccination history needs its last two doses documented rather than only the current one, which is a problem when a clinic holds only the most recent record. Breed rules are set nationally and separately from the health requirements, so tell us the breed when you ask for a quote.
Your vet sets their own fees. The examination, the parasite treatment, the microchip and the certificate paperwork are priced by your clinic and vary between practices, so ask your vet directly. Crate size is the single biggest lever, because it drives chargeable weight, and on a quoted lane it is the number the carrier prices from. Season matters at both ends and the two are opposite: US summer heat embargoes run from May, while the Chilean summer runs from December, so no month is easy at both ends and the routing has to be picked around whichever end is hotter.
